The Pet Adoption League is a site close to my heart, since I fostered and kept a dog from the shelter. They didn’t have a functioning site so I offered one pro bono because what they had was not kept current, showed no animals and the links took you in circles. This is not good for the fate of animals. They worked very hard with what they had, Facebook. I asked them if they needed help with the website and there was a political issue, someone’s husband worked on it, etc. and they literally had no access or knowledge of how to get to it. But their hands were tied.
One day out of the blue I got a call from them, their domain at petadoptionleague.com had expired and they didn’t know what to do. I immediately purchase the new domain for them with the .org extension which made more sense anyway since they are non-profit, and we just started from scratch. I quickly put up a website that works much better for them. They utilize Petfinder’s website, so there’s a plugin on the site to pull animals from there. They continue to use Facebook, so the home page features their FB posts front and center using a plugin. If they need to, they can access the site, but so far I’m the only one who maintains it. They have enough to do keeping the animals in their care safe and vetted, and finding loving homes for all of them.
